About Orthodontics / Invisalign

The way to a healthy, beautifully aligned smile you’ve been dreaming of!

The benefits of orthodontic treatment(braces) reach beyond the obvious aesthetic improvements to one’s bite and straightening of teeth; it’s also a great way to improve a person’s overall self-image. While having beautiful teeth is desirable, even more important is the need to alleviate potential health risks to teeth or the jaw. Crooked teeth and jaw issues can contribute to improper cleaning of teeth, leading to tooth decay and possibly gum disease or total tooth loss. Orthodontic problems left untreated can lead to chewing and digestion difficulty, speech impairment, and abnormal wear of tooth surfaces. Over time, excessive strain on gum tissue and the bone that supports teeth can affect jaw joints. This can lead to problems such as chronic headache or neck and facial pain.

Types of Orthodontic Treatment

Metal Brackets – Symphony Dental uses the latest metal brackets which offer small size and rhomboid shape for greater comfort and aesthetics. This option allows for the selection of new colored ties at each visit.

Ceramic Brackets –  As the color of these braces is like the natural color of the teeth, they are less visible. Sometimes, people may not even notice that you are wearing braces. But, one should be aware that drinking too much coffee, curry, wine, or even smoking can cause the ceramic braces to discolor.

Clear Aligner Therapy – Clear removable aligners(Invisalign) may be used to treat many types of malocclusions. Every few weeks, the aligners are changed to accommodate continued tooth movement.

Reasons for orthodontic treatment (braces) for adults and children:
  • Crowding – Involving extra or malpositioned teeth.
  • Spacing between teeth – Teeth are missing, too small, or too large.
  • Deep Overbite – The lower front teeth bite into the upper tissue of the upper teeth.
  • Underbite (Lower jaw protrusion) – Lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw.
  • Crossbite – One or more upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth (towards the tongue).
  • Overjet (Protruding upper teeth) – Upper teeth that protrude beyond normal; usually associated with a short lower jaw.
  • Missing or extra teeth – Due to tooth decay, injury, or inherited problems.
  • Jaw and joint pain

Orthodontics not only help straighten your teeth, giving you an appealing smile, but can contribute greatly to the health of the teeth, jaw and, by extension, one’s overall health.
